Life Application: Solomon’s Heartfelt Wisdom
Solomon’s Heartfelt Wisdom
In a small village nestled between the rolling hills and vast fields, there lived two women, Leah, and Hannah, each with a newborn son. They shared a cozy home, full of laughter and the soft gurgles of their little ones.
One tragic night, a terrible accident happened. When morning’s light crept in, Leah found that the baby in her arms was no longer her own and accused Hannah of swapping the children while she slept. Hannah denied this, claiming the living child as her own. They quarreled endlessly, each heartbroken and desperate, until they decided to seek wisdom from the wisest person they knew — King Solomon.
Before the king, they poured out their stories, each claiming the living baby. The king listened with a heavy heart to their pleas and cries. In a moment of great seriousness, he called for a sword and declared that the only fair solution was to divide the living child between them.
Leah’s heart shattered at the thought, and she cried out, “Oh no, please give her the baby! Don’t hurt him!” But Hannah remained silent, her eyes fixed on the ground.
King Solomon saw Leah’s genuine love and knew she must be the true mother. With kindness in his voice, he handed the baby to Leah, saying, “She is his mother.”
The village was astounded by King Solomon’s decision. They realized that his wisdom didn’t come from books or advisors but from a heart seeking God’s guidance.
Through this story, children, we learn the importance of seeking God’s wisdom in our lives. It teaches us that true wisdom can solve the hardest problems and that it comes from a heart full of love and understanding. Just like King Solomon, when we face tough choices, we should always pray and ask God to guide us, for His wisdom is the light in our path, leading us to do what is right and just.
First kings 3:16-28 NIV
A Wise Ruling
Now 2 prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. One of them said, pardon me, my Lord. This woman and I live in the same house, and I had a baby while she was there with me. The third day after my child was born, this woman also had a baby. We were alone; There was no one in the house but the two of us. During the night this woman’s son died because she lay on him. So, she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I your servant was asleep. She put him at her breast and put her dead son at my breast.
The next morning, I got up to nurse my son and he was dead but when I looked at him closely in the morning light, I saw that it wasn’t the son I had born. The other woman said no! The living one is my son, the dead one is yours. But the first insisted, no! The dead one is yours, the living one is mine. And so, they argued before the king.
The king said, this one says, my son is alive, and your son is dead; while that one says no! Your son is dead and mine is alive. Then the king said bring me a sword. So, they brought a sword to the king. He then gave an order, cut the living child in two and give 1/2 to one woman and the other half to the other. The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king please, my Lord, give her the living baby! Don’t kill him! But the other said, neither I nor you shall have him cut him in two!
Then the king gave his ruling giving the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him she is his mother. When all of Israel heard the verdict of the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.
Follow-up Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please give me wisdom just like King Solomon,
To know what’s right and what is wrong.
Help me to listen, help me to see,
Teach me to act justly, in all that I be.
When things are confusing, when I don’t know what to do,
I ask for Your guidance to help me through.
Grant me discernment to understand Your way,
And the courage to follow, day by day.
May my heart be just, my thoughts be clear,
So, in every moment, Your wisdom is near.
Thank You, Lord God, for hearing my prayer,
In Your loving hands, I’m always in care.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
